Hole #17 "The Gap"

The 17th hole at Parline Golf Course is a long par 4 into the prevailing wind. The tee shot requires a 175 yard carry over a creek, leaving an approach of 125-175 yards to a green guarded by a bunker on the left and behind.

Comments From the Caddy Shack (Rating ***):

It's all about the tee shot here. Hit a good one and you are home free. Hit a bad one and you are looking at a big number. You need to carry the creek, which takes about 175 yards from the white tees, usually against the wind. Big hitters don't worry about it. They go over the trees to the left of the gap and cut off the dogleg. Mere mortals must negotiate the gap. Hit it right and you are dead in the woods. Hit it low left and you meet the same fate, but only worse because there is no good place to take a drop. Please don't cry for your mother, the locals hate it when people do that. Pull out your driver, take dead aim and shoot the gap with a nice draw. If you make it, you'll feel good about yourself the rest of the day. You might want to cheat a little short and left on the approach. This green runs severely right to left, so it is easier to putt and chip from the left side, but don't take enough club to get you to the left bunker.
